That subject line is very deceptive...
Because if you know me...you know I am NOT, in fact...ANTI symmetry at all.
I love it...I crave it...sometimes...I NEED it.
I don't know if it's my Virgo tendency toward order within chaos...or just an obsessive need for things to match up on each half of my brain...but whatever it is...I just love all things symmetrical.

I expound upon this because I was finally asked yesterday by a friend the question I've been waiting for since I first started posting art here...LONG before my use or even knowledge of Apophysis..."Anti, like 90% of your gallery is symmetrical...why is that?"

My honest answer?
"I dunno....just the way I am."

Because I really DON'T know what it is...but I have been like that since I was a little kid.
I can find symmetry in almost anything...even things that are in NO way outwardly symmetrical...or maybe I should say I can CREATE it from anything.

Anyway...I am really just typing to watch myself type, possibly...because I have no real explanation nor any relief for any of you who might like to see more asymmetrical pieces from me.
I feel the few that jump out at me from time to time are pure luck of the draw...and it's very rare that I can stand looking at them for long. They have to be EXTREMELY special, in one way or another...for me to consider posting them.
I know most folks probably just hit the little "x" when yet another of my symmetrical deviations hits their inbox...because their attention isn't caught unless there's some sort of unbalanced image...or extremely stark, uniquely compositioned things that aren't fractals,(haha),but I just basically do what pleases ME...which I would hope most artists do, instead of necessarily trying to please everyone else. Go with whatcha know, right?
Ha, don't get me wrong...I want people to like my work...but that won't ever be 100% of my motivation or inspiration. If someone doesn't like something I post, and actually is honest enough to tell me about it, and it turns out to be a simple visual disagreement...then what can you really do, right? It's all about perception of the individual, which is a phrase I think I have used about a billion times when I discuss art OR music.

Anyway...wow, I got long-winded. >.<
So um...I hope most of you at least like the symmetrical pieces for what they are...and the fact that I DO try to make them stand on their individual merits besides the symmetry.
And I promise to branch out on occasion and throw in some wonkiness whenever the mood strikes me.
